Ukraine asks the international court to investigate the shelling of the prisoner of war camp

Ukraine called on the International Criminal Court to investigate the shelling of a prisoner of war camp near Yelenovka, accusing it of a “Russian war crime”.

The agency said that the above behaviors were demonstrated in the shelling of the detention center in Yelenovka, which is believed to be the place to hold Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also accused the shelling of the Yelenovka detention center as “a war crime” and the “mass murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war” that left more than 50 dead. Zelensky called on the US to declare Russia a “state sponsor of terrorism” after the attack.

The Russian Defense Ministry called this a “blatant provocation aimed at intimidating Ukrainian soldiers and preventing their surrender” and announced that it was investigating the shelling. DPR officials said HIMARS rocket shrapnel was found at the scene.

Ukrainian forces denied the accusations, stating that they “did not shell the Yelenovka residential area”, even claiming that Russia “deliberately shelled the detention center in order to accuse Ukraine of ‘committing war crimes’, as well as covering up a cover-up. conceal the torture and execution of prisoners”.
