Mr. Biden tested positive for nCoV again

The White House said Biden tested positive for the virus a second time and had to return to isolation, explaining that this was a normal effect of the treatment he received.

Kevin O’Connor, the US President’s doctor, said Joe Biden “tested positive at around noon on July 30 with an antigen test” after four consecutive days of negative results, and started strict isolation procedures.

“This is actually a rebound positive,” said Dr O’Connor, referring to the situation where a patient like Mr Biden who was treated with Paxlovid cleared the virus but still tested positive after completing the course of treatment. .

Paxlovid is an antiviral drug from Pfizer, with emergency authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration to treat mild to moderate cases of Covid-19 in people 12 years of age and older who are at high risk for severe disease. Patients need a doctor’s prescription if they want to use this drug.

The doctor added that President Biden did not reappear with symptoms and felt quite well, insisting that there was no need to start treatment a second time.

“Today I tested positive for nCoV again. This happened to a small number of people. I have no symptoms but I am still isolated to ensure the safety of everyone around. I am still working and will be back soon. “, Mr. Biden wrote.

The White House said it had canceled Biden’s trips to Delaware and Michigan.

President Biden first received a positive result for nCoV on July 21 and was isolated for 5 days, before getting a negative result. As the oldest US president in history, Mr. Biden will turn 80 in November and his health has always been a matter of concern.

The President of the United States received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine before taking office in January 2021, the first booster in September 2021 and the second booster on March 30.
