Gunmen gang raped 8 South African actors

Armed attackers stormed the set of a music video crew, assaulted and raped eight actors on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa.

South Africa’s Police Minister Bheki Cele said on July 29 that security forces had arrested three of about 20 suspects behind the shocking attack a day earlier in Krugersdorp, a small town west of Johannesburg. The city is known as the “economic capital” of South Africa.

The group of gunmen appeared when the crew was unloading equipment and preparing the set to shoot a music video. Eight 18-35 year old actresses were raped, while the men in the cast were stripped naked and robbed.

“It seems that the group of gunmen are all foreign nationals, basically illegal miners,” Cele said on the sidelines of the National Policy Conference of the ruling African National Congress (ANG) party. held in Johannesburg.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he had directed the Minister of Police to capture and handle the entire group of suspects responsible for the attack. Police have not released the identities of those arrested.

On average, South African police receive a rape report every 12 minutes, with both male and female victims. Statistics for the first quarter of this year show that South Africa recorded at least 6,083 murders and nearly 11,000 rapes.
